This year's Translation Theory Seminar and the Symposium on Chinese Translators Journal, jointly hosted by the Academy of Contemporary China and World Studies and Beijing International Studies University (BISU), ran online from July 21 to 24.

Around 60 translation faculty members from Beijing Foreign Studies University, BISU, Sichuan International Studies University, Tongji University, and other institutions took part.

At the opening ceremony, Cheng Wei, BISU's vice-president, delivered a speech.

Cheng noted that translation is not merely linguistic conversion, but also a bridge between civilizations and a vehicle of ideas, highlighting that translation educators bear the important mission of telling China's stories effectively, spreading China's voice, and constructing China's discourse system.

Cheng acknowledged that the seminar and symposium mark a key step in meeting the demand for high-quality development of translation studies and in advancing the professional capabilities of university translation faculty, providing a solid foundation for strengthening theoretical grounding, enhancing research capacity, and producing more high-quality outputs in both teaching and research.

The seminar featured a rich and diverse program covering frontier translation theories, research methodology, thesis topic selection and academic writing, and translation criticism. Multiple renowned scholars were invited to deliver insightful presentations.

Since its inaugural session in 2014, the Translation Theory Seminar has been dedicated to enhancing university faculty's capabilities in translation theory instruction and academic research. It has become an important platform for nurturing high-caliber translation talent in China and for promoting mutual exchange in translation theory research between China and the rest of the world.
