Sino-Russian university alliance gathers in Moscow to boost language education

The Secretariat Meeting of the China-Russia University Alliance for Language Education and the second International Academic and Practical Conference on "Language Education Concepts, Technologies, and Practices in Chinese and Russian Universities" took place in Moscow, Russia from June 18 to 19.

Zheng Chengjun, vice-president of the Beijing International Studies University (BISU), attended the meeting virtually, while Wu Wei from BISU's School of European Studies took part in person.

Zheng delivered a speech titled "The Strategic Value of Sino-Russian University Language Education Cooperation and Practices at BISU."

In his speech, Zheng emphasized the milestone significance of the year 2026, marking the 30th anniversary of the China-Russia Strategic Partnership of Coordination and 25th anniversary of the signing of the China-Russia Treaty of Good-Neighborliness and Friendly Cooperation, highlighting the role of universities as bridges for cultural exchange and youth friendship.

Zheng also outlined BISU's systematic approach to deepening cooperation with Russian institutions, with a focus on alliance-building, interdisciplinary talent cultivation, and smart teaching.

He proposed four concrete proposals: joint cross-border course development, youth exchange mechanisms, shared digital platforms, and a "language + industry" collaborative education model.

During the conference, Wu met with representatives from the Russian secretariat of the alliance and member universities. Their discussions centered on the application of artificial intelligence in Sino-Russian language education and translation, as well as ongoing bilateral collaboration in talent development.
