BISU attends in TAC 2026 Annual Conference

Leaders of Beijing International Studies University (BISU) recently attended the Translators Association of China (TAC) 2026 Annual Conference in Wuhan, Hubei province, where they showcased the university's translation innovation achievements.

Hosted to explore new pathways for translation development in the AI era and amplify the global influence of Chinese civilization through translation expertise, this conference attracted over 900 participants from government agencies, enterprises, higher education institutions, research institutes, and the translation industry.

At the event, BISU Vice-president Cheng Wei introduced the country's first AI simultaneous interpretation quality evaluation platform developed by the university, and the progress in formulating the first national standards for AI instant translation quality assessment.

Cheng highlighted the significance of these achievements in scientific rationality, objectivity, professionalism, practical applicability, and forward-looking vision. She emphasized that language-focused universities should clarify their strategic positioning in the AI era: to pioneer technological innovation, set industrial standards, and serve as core bases for cultivating high-calibre translation professionals.

The conference also witnessed the inauguration of the TAC Standardization Committee. Cheng was appointed as the chair of the committee; Peng Tianyang, dean of BISU's School of Interpreting and Translation, was appointed as its vice-chair and secretary-general; and Jiang Yu, vice-dean of the School of Interpreting and Translation, was appointed as the committee's deputy secretary-general.

Additionally, BISU's self-developed AI simultaneous interpretation quality evaluation platform was showcased at the event. Attendees learned about the platform's scientific evaluation process across multiple dimensions, including accuracy, fluency, completeness, and professionalism of AI-generated translations.

The conference stands as a key initiative for BISU to engage in industry dialogue, advance major research innovations, and expand multi-dimensional cooperation. Moving forward, BISU will further integrate AI with translation education, research innovation, and industry service, address key technological challenges, refine translation standards, and consolidate the foundation for cultivating translation talents.
