On March 18, Beijing International Studies University (BISU) invited Professor Liu Xiaofeng from Renmin University to deliver a lecture on regional studies, and to unveil the Classical Studies Workshop.

Titled "What is Area Studies", Liu emphasized the importance of understanding the core essence of Country and Region Studies to advance this emerging discipline.

In the lecture, Liu discussed its historical development and clarified its relationship with international relations, political geography, international politics, and geopolitics. He argued that students should create a foundation in world historical geography, Western political thought, and geopolitics to understand and interpret geopolitical changes throughout world history.

During the event, Zheng Chengjun, BISU's vice-president and Liu jointly inaugurated the university's "Classical Studies Workshop." This initiative marks a significant step in advancing the disciplines of Country and Region Studies as well as Classical Studies at BISU.

Moving forward, BISU plans to conduct high-level academic activities through this workshop, fostering academic research in the two fields and promoting high-quality development in the humanities and social sciences.
