
Shi Zhongqi, president of the Chinese Language Teachers Association, USA (CLTA-USA), visited Beijing International Studies University (BISU) on Dec 24 and gave a series of lectures on international Chinese education in the age of AI.

His lectures, titled "Fundamentals and Competitiveness of International Chinese Teachers in the AI Era," "Telling China's Story: Cultural Expression and Strategies for International Chinese Teachers in the AI Era," and "Language, Culture, and Region: Understanding 'Chinese Going Global' in Regional Studies," were rich in case studies and unique insights, sparking lively interactions and providing valuable guidance for both faculty and students.
Shi praised BISU's interdisciplinary approach, noting its promising future. He acknowledged the dual challenges and opportunities presented by the AI era and emphasized the need for language disciplines to adapt and transform to meet societal demands. He also expressed CLTA-USA's willingness to collaborate on various projects with the university.
Zheng Chengjun, a member of the Standing Committee of the CPC BISU Committee and the university's vice-president, emphasized the rapid development of AI and the challenges it poses to language programs. He highlighted the university's initiatives in promoting interdisciplinary programs such as "Chinese + Tourism" and "Foreign Languages + Professional Skills."
Zheng expressed hopes for future collaborations with CLTA-USA in areas such as AI, talent cultivation, joint research, and training programs.

This event was part of the university's lectures from international visiting scholars series. BISU plans to invite more internationally renowned experts and scholars for lectures in the future, aiming to broaden international academic exchanges and establish a high-level platform for scholarly interaction.
