BISU holds opening ceremony for international students

Beijing International Studies University (BISU) held the opening ceremony for international students at the School of International Education on Sept 15. Zheng Chengjun, vice-president of BISU and a member of the Standing Committee of the CPC BISU Committee, delivered the First Lesson of the Semester to the freshmen.

He congratulated the new students on joining BISU and shared his personal experiences studying abroad. Echoing BISU's "Language +" educational philosophy, he highlighted the university's rich heritage and the distinctive strengths of the School of International Education.

He encouraged the newcomers to manage their time effectively, balancing study and life while making the most of learning opportunities for a rewarding university experience.

He also urged them to build positive relationships by respecting others, improving communication skills, and fostering friendships with teachers and peers for mutual growth.

Additionally, he emphasized the importance of self-discipline, setting clear goals, maintaining a positive attitude, and making full use of their time to gain knowledge, make friends, and engage deeply with Chinese culture.

International student representatives Wang Kai, Yan Ailing, and Mitali Choudhary delivered speeches at the ceremony. They shared their experiences at BISU, reflections on life in China, enthusiasm for Chinese culture, and aspirations for their studies at the School of International Education.

Faculty members, including Yu Miao, dean of the School of International Education, along with Zhang Xiaonan, Zhao Xiaohui, and Shao Bin, lecturers from the school, also addressed the audience. They shared stories of former students' experiences at BISU and offered advice on learning Chinese, drawing on their own teaching experience.

To honor international students who excelled in the spring semester of 2025, the School of International Education established the Outstanding Student Award.

During the ceremony, Zheng presented honorary certificates and commemorative gifts to the award recipients.

Following the ceremony, the International Student Office organized an orientation session to address common questions and concerns faced by freshmen.
