Japanese Ambassador to China Kenji Kanasugi led a delegation to visit Beijing International Studies University (BISU) on May 27.  

CPC BISU Committee Secretary Chang Yu, held a meeting with the delegation, joined by Zheng Chengjun, a member of the Standing Committee of the CPC BISU Committee and vice-president of the university.

Chang warmly welcomed Kanasugi and his delegation, highlighting BISU's history and its commitment to Japanese language programs, noting that these programs have been a cornerstone of the university since its establishment.

He emphasized that China and Japan share a long history of cultural bond and mutual learning. In the new era, he underscored the critical role of people-to-people exchanges in fostering mutual understanding and trust between the two nations.

Despite the growing impact of big data and AI on language learning, Chang emphasized that in-person interaction remains irreplaceable. He expressed his hope to foster deeper educational partnerships between BISU and Japanese universities, to enable more students to study in Japan and further promote bilateral cultural ties.

Kanasugi expressed his gratitude to BISU for its warm hospitality and acknowledged the enduring friendship between Japan and China. He highlighted the importance of youth exchanges and praised BISU as a pillar institution with remarkable achievements in Japanese language education.

He pledged to facilitate collaboration between Japanese universities and BISU and welcomed more BISU students to study in Japan to strengthen bilateral relations. 

Following the meeting, Kanasugi attended BISU's 42nd Japanese drama festival, delivered opening remarks, and engaged in discussions with faculty and students from the School of Japanese Studies.
