Updated: May 1, 2025

With the sound of a whistle, over 100 Chinese and international students and teachers at Beijing International Studies University (BISU) dashed from the starting line of this year's "Appointment with University Leaders" Youth Long-Distance Race held recently at Beijing Expo Park.

Before the event, Ji Jinbiao, deputy secretary of the CPC BISU Committee and president of the university, and Li Zhen, deputy secretary of the CPC BISU Committee, met with Hou Lin, secretary of the Communist Youth League of China Yanqing district Committee and Hu Yongjun, deputy manager of Beijing Expo Investment and Development Company to discuss cooperation in youth work, talent cultivation and internship.

Ji also delivered a speech to the participants, encouraging them to embrace sports with enthusiasm and to embody the spirit of confidence and strength.

Despite the drizzle, the run was in full swing. The 5.4-kilometer route had display boards highlighting key moments of the May Fourth Movement and themes from the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, illustrating the narrative of young pioneers striving for national salvation and peace.

Song Zhuoqun, a student of the Chinese International Education program, was the first to cross the finish line. "I have always maintained my running exercises, and today's light rain not only didn't affect my performance, but actually helped me surpass my usual record. Running has long been a part of my life, and each time I challenge myself, it fills me with a sense of achievement. Running alongside both Chinese and international students at the Beijing Expo Park today felt particularly special; it was an unforgettable breakthrough!" he said.

The "Appointment with University Leaders" Youth Long-Distance Race is a signature event organized by BISU's student union, now in its seventh year.

This year's event saw Chinese and international students running side by side, fostering a shared love for peace and a vision for a community with a shared future for mankind.
