The 20th Capital University Environmental Culture Festival closed at Beijing International Studies University (BISU) on Dec 10, a successful conclusion of BISU's "Green Youth, 20 Years of Companionship" series of activities.
BISU has won the Best Organization Award for the festival's Environmental-Themed Debate.

At the closing ceremony, An Xinxin, director of the Beijing Municipal Ecology and Environment Protection Publicity Center, congratulated all the students who made it to the finals and urged university students to pay attention to current ecological and environmental protection issues, and to become advocates and practitioners of and leaders in environmental protection.
Huang Yong, secretary of the Communist Youth League BISU Committee, welcomed and thanked all the guests. He said that he hoped the students would develop their abilities, accumulate experience, make like-minded friends, deepen their understanding of environmental protection and participate in the building of a beautiful Beijing.
Before the ceremony started, Zhang Yan, a member of the Standing Committee of the CPC BISU Committee and vice-president of the university, met with An. They held talks on better fostering students' environmental protection awareness and telling the stories of beautiful Beijing and China to the world.

Since the launch of the culture festival on Oct 28, 20 activities have been carried out. More than 70,000 students from 40 universities — including Tsinghua University, Renmin University of China and Minzu University of China — participated in the festival.

Environmental-Themed Debate, one of the most influential debates in North China, is a highlight of the festival.
This year's debate competition attracted 32 teams from universities in Beijing to participate. They engaged in fierce debate on hot topics such as species protection, new energy vehicle development, volunteer services and environmental protection practices, showing the students' critical thinking abilities and extensive knowledge about environmental protection.

BISU is set to take this event as an opportunity to continue to conduct environmental protection education for the faculty and students, and shoulder its responsibilities in the construction of a beautiful Beijing.
The festival has been held for 20 years since it began in 2004. Through various forms of activities, it has advocated green and low-carbon lifestyles and served the city's construction of ecological civilization.
The closing ceremony, guided by the Beijing Municipal Ecology and Environment Bureau and the Beijing Municipal Committee of the Communist Youth League, was co-hosted by the Beijing Municipal Ecology and Environment Protection Publicity Center and the Beijing Students' Federation, and was organized by the Communist Youth League BISU Committee.
