New scholarship established for BISU students

A delegation led by Haruhiko Aritomo, general manager for East Asia of Sumitomo Corporation, visited Beijing International Studies University (BISU) recently.

Ji Jinbiao, deputy secretary of the CPC BISU Committee and president of the university, attended the meeting, accompanied by Zheng Chengjun, a member of the Standing Committee of the CPC BISU Committee and vice-president of the university.

Ji welcomed the visit of the Sumitomo Corporation delegation. He highlighted BISU's emphasis on internationalization and its partnerships with 26 Japanese institutions.

Recognizing Sumitomo Corporation's longstanding commitment to social responsibility, he expressed hopes for closer collaboration to further promote international talent cultivation and facilitate cultural and talent exchanges between China and Japan.

Haruhiko Aritomo introduced the history, business scope, current collaborations and philanthropic initiatives of Sumitomo Corporation.

He mentioned the existing partnerships with several renowned Chinese universities and expressed a desire to expand cooperation with BISU to broaden horizons for outstanding students, act as a bridge between nations and enhance Sino-Japanese friendly cooperation.

Following the meeting, a signing ceremony for the Memorandum of Understanding on Undergraduate Scholarships between the School of Japanese Language, Literature and Culture, Sumitomo Corporation and Sumitomo Corporation (China) Limited was held.

Haruhiko Aritomo and Zheng attended the ceremony, which was presided over by Yang Jingfeng, secretary of the CPC School of Japanese Language, Literature and Culture Committee.

In his address, Zheng praised Sumitomo Corporation's high reputation in Japan and China, emphasizing its role in economic and trade sectors and its contributions to cultivating high-caliber international talents.

He called for mutual efforts in nurturing more outstanding students, promoting cross-cultural exchanges and contributing to Sino-Japanese friendship.

Zheng expresses hope for closer cooperation between the two sides.

Takashi Mitachi, the general manager of Sumitomo Corporation (China), outlined the company's history, profile, and social contributions. He pledged ongoing support for cultural and educational exchanges between China and Japan, aiming to aid talent development and bolster China's economic growth.

Both parties agreed to use the signed agreement as a foundation to deepen cooperation, jointly advancing high-quality educational and cultural exchanges between China and Japan.

Officials from the International Exchange and Cooperation Office and the School of Japanese Language, Literature and Culture also attended the meeting.
