Updated: October 15, 2024

The finals of the first Chaoyang District University Students' Model Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) Proposal Competition took place at the University of International Business and Economics (UIBE) on Sept 26.

The team from Beijing International Studies University (BISU), one of the 15 teams from universities across Chaoyang district, clinched second prize and was awarded the "Excellent Organization Award".

The competition unfolded in four key phases: proposal presentations, consultation discussions, expert feedback and judges' scoring.

BISU's team engaged in lively debates during the consultation discussions phase, providing clear explanations to questions from other participants, and earned praise from the judges and experts.

The BISU team consisted of four students from the School of International Relations -- Liang Xinyi, Yin Peixin, Zhou Xin and Yao Yao -- and is guided by Li Suiyue, a professor at the School of Marxism Studies.

Their proposal, titled "Proposal for the Age-Friendly Renovation of Homes for the Elderly with High Age or Disabilities in Home-Based Elderly Care", was based on extensive field research across several Beijing communities.

They addressed pressing concerns about the safety and comfort of elderly individuals in home-based care settings, and provided practical solutions for renovating homes to better serve senior residents, particularly those who are disabled.

Beginning in July 2024, BISU's Model CPPCC Proposal Competition, a selection event for the district-level contest, ran for two months. Over 60 teams participated, exploring topics such as elderly care, infrastructure and education.

The competition guided by the CPPCC Chaoyang District Committee, provided students with a valuable platform to apply their theoretical knowledge to real-world issues, fostering their development as informed and responsible citizens. It deepened the youth's understanding of China’s unique consultative democracy system, encourage their participation in civic life, and help them contribute to China’s modernization.
