A delegation of 100 Japanese university students, organized by the Japan-China Cultural Exchange Association, visited Beijing International Studies University (BISU) on Sept 9 at the invitation of the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries.
The cultural exchange event commenced with a welcoming speech by Yang Jingfeng, secretary of the CPC School of Japanese Language, Literature and Culture Committee. Yang emphasized the importance of mutual understanding and cultural exchange, saying "Friendship between countries lies in the affinity between their peoples." He hoped that students from both countries would gain knowledge, build friendships and create beautiful memories through these dialogues and activities.
Risa Wataya, head of the delegation and a renowned writer, thanked the Chinese side for providing a platform to foster dialogue and mutual exchange, expressing her hope that the visit would become a cherished memory for the Japanese students.

Marking the event, Chinese students performed the percussion piece "Dragon Soars, Tiger Leaps" and the traditional dance "Book of Letters", highlighting the charm of Chinese traditional arts. Japanese students demonstrated their skills in calligraphy and karate. An interactive session on wearing yukata (traditional Japanese attire) allowed Chinese students to experience Japanese culture firsthand.

Additionally, Chinese students performed excerpts from Peking Opera, including The Heavenly Maids Scatter Blossoms, and taught their Japanese counterparts some basic Peking Opera motions.
During the thematic discussion session, youths from both countries participated in ice-breaking games and had detailed discussions on the theme of "hobbies". Representatives from each group shared their perspectives and views. Chinese students showed their paintings and traditional martial arts, and Japanese students praised China's natural scenery and rich cultural heritage, expressing admiration for the depth of Chinese culture.

At the dinner reception, toasts were offered by both sides, wishing for a deep and lasting friendship between the young people of China and Japan.
