Luo Jiezheng, a distinguished translator of French legal texts and retired professor from Beijing International Studies University (BISU), has made significant contributions to Sino-French legal and cultural exchanges through his extensive work in legal translation.

His journey began in 1965 when he entered BISU to study French. After graduation, he served as a translator for China's medical aid team in Guinea before returning to BISU to teach. In 1984, he pursued further studies in France, specializing in civil and commercial law at ESSEC Business School. This experience laid the foundation for his future work in translating French legal codes into Chinese.

Over his career, Luo has translated 32 legal texts, totaling approximately 23 million words. His meticulous translations have earned him high praise within the Chinese legal community. In recognition of his contributions, he was honored with the "Senior Translators Award" by the Translators Association of China (TAC) in 2018.

Despite the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence in the field of translation, Luo remains convinced that AI cannot fully replace human translators, especially in specialized fields like law. He notes that AI currently lacks the ability to accurately interpret complex legal concepts and that human expertise is essential for ensuring the precision and accuracy required in legal translation. He encourages students to continuously refine their skills and stay committed to their work, as human judgment and creativity remain irreplaceable.

Even after his retirement, Luo continues to make contributions in the field of legal translation. His dedication and passion for translation inspire students and professionals, highlighting the importance of perseverance, expertise, and a deep commitment to one's craft.
