BISU students set for Paris Olympics internship

Beijing International Studies University (BISU) held a going away ceremony and training session for the 2024 Paris Olympics interns on June 26.

Twenty-nine Paris Olympics interns from BISU joined the event, with Chang Yu, secretary of the CPC BISU Committee, and Zheng Chengjun, a member of the Standing Committee of the CPC BISU Committee and vice-president of the university, in attendance.

Chang first spoke of the visit of the vice-president of the International Olympic Committee, Mr. Samaranch Jr., to BISU, and praised the performance of the students of the School of European Studies during his visit. He pointed out that it was the first time that the internship opportunities were given to students outside the host country of the Olympics. He encouraged the students to sharpen their skills, broaden their horizons and experience diverse cultures through this opportunity.

Zheng reviewed the background of the internship program. He pointed out that the 2024 Paris Olympics are both an occasion for deepening cultural exchanges and a platform for telling Chinese stories, reminding the interns that they represent the image of China and Beijing.

Chang presented flags to the lead teachers and representatives of the interns. The leadership of BISU also presented the students with care packages as well, and the interns expressed their determination to complete the tasks.

After the ceremony, experts from the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics Organizing Committee conducted training sessions, sharing with the interns facts and information about the Olympics and their duties, clarifying their tasks for broadcasting before, during and after the Olympic Games. They emphasized that the Olympic broadcasting team is indispensable for bringing the Olympics to the global audience.

It is understood that the scale and duration of this internship program goes beyond that in other universities in China and even around the world. BISU attached great importance to it and spared no efforts in team building, skill training, and security guarantee to ensure the smooth operation of the internship team.

In all, 29 BISU interns will attend the broadcasting work of the Paris Olympics at the Olympic Broadcasting Services (OBS), departing for Paris in groups starting on July 5.
