Dialogue on RCEP opportunities and cooperation held at BISU

The "RCEP: Opportunities and Cooperation" dialogue was held at Beijing International Studies University (BISU) on June 26. 

Participants from the Embassy of Malaysia in China, China Association of International Trade (AIT), the Academy of Macroeconomic Research, China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Beijing Sub-Council (CCPIT BEIJING), China Association of Trade in Services (CATIS) and the University of International Business and Economics (UIBE) gathered to discuss cooperation and development among RCEP countries, the integration of industry and education, and reform and innovation in cultivation of economic and trade talents. 

Chang Yu, secretary of the CPC BISU Committee attended and exchanged ideas with Lam Yook Choi, minister counsellor of the Embassy of Malaysia.

Zheng Chengjun, a member of the Standing Committee of the CPC BISU Committee and vice-president of the university, emphasized the role of the RCEP as a platform for cultural exchange and mutual understanding. He highlighted BISU's role in providing support for the government’s decision-making, cultivating talents for international businesses and serving as a platform for regional cultural exchanges.

Li Gang, vice-chairman of the AIT, praised the success of the RCEP and stressed the necessity of integrating cultural exchanges into educational, cultural and tourism services trade.

Lam Yook Choi shared his views on the RCEP from a Malaysian's perspective, emphasizing its positive influence on regional economic integration and the structure of industrial chains.

Li Dawei, a researcher from the Academy of Macroeconomic Research, analyzed changes caused by the RCEP on globalization mechanisms, its short-term and long-term effects on China's foreign trade, and the necessity of solving problems that arose during the implementation of the initiative.

Professor Zhou Nianli, from UIBE, suggested improving China's service trade regulations to align with RCEP standards.

In the roundtable discussion, Yuan Xiaokun, from the CCPIT Beijing, discussed the influence of the RCEP on international trade, and especially the opportunities created by it.

Li Jun, deputy secretary of the CATIS, stressed the important role of the CATIS in implementing the RCEP, adding that it’s important to promote the entry of enterprises into the regional market.

Li Ying, marketing director for North China at Broad International, believed that the RCEP offered opportunities for enterprises to engage in cross-border services, emphasizing the importance for enterprises to capitalize on their strengths and to enhance their level of internationalization.

Wang Haiwen, dean of the School of Economics at BISU, said that the university has actively promoted studies on RCEP countries’ trade and investment policies, as well as fostering research teams that study RCEP countries’ tertiary industries and service trade.

The trade rules, the new trends and opportunities in investment, digital trade, service trade, and regional development among RCEP countries were discussed at the forum.

The event was organized by the School of Economics at BISU, the Expert Committee and the International Exchange Working Committee of CATIS. It received coverage from Beijing TV (BTV), Beijing Daily, China.org and China News Service.
