Beijing International Studies University (BISU) has launched a talent training plan for China-ASEAN tourism and cultural standards connection, which was on the list of the 2023 National and Regional Research Talent Support Plan (Project) released by the China Scholarship Council (CSC) recently.

The plan is BISU’s fourth project supported by the CSC. The other three projects are the talent training plan for central Asian cultural heritage protection and tourism utilization, innovative talents cultivation for China-Brazil service trade cooperation, and international communication capacity building under the background of China-Russia-Belarus humanities cooperation.

Professor Ji Jinbiao, deputy secretary of the Party committee and president of BISU, took the lead in the implementation of the talent training plan. The project will last for three years.

The CSC will sponsor five BISU teachers and students specialized in tourism management, language and literature, and journalism and communication each year to study at the Management and Science University, Malaysia. They will study as senior research scholars, visiting scholars, postdoctoral fellows, and joint training master degree students.

The MSU Malaysia is a comprehensive university offering 150 majors from the preparatory to doctoral level. It has five major academic fields covering medicine, business, tourism management, basic science, and social science. After 40 years, the university has established cooperative relations with 300 universities around the world.

On Oct 19, 2022, Professor Ji and Mohd Shukri, president of MSU Malaysia, signed the Agreement on Jointly Building the ASEAN Economic, Cultural and Tourism Research Center via video link. According to the agreement, the two sides would promote teacher-student exchanges and carry out scientific research cooperate.

The talents cultivation plan aims to strengthen the connection between China and ASEAN in the field of tourism and strives to boost the development of tourism and the regional economy in ASEAN countries.
