Confucius Institute at Mohammed V University (Morocco)

In December 2008, the Beijing International Studies University signed a university-level Exchange Agreement and a Confucius Institute Implementation Agreement with the Mohammed V University in Morocco. On December 4, 2009, the Confucius Institute was inaugurated and officially started operation.

The Confucius Institute at Mohammed V University is one of three Confucius Institutes in Morocco. Over the past 14 years, under the support and continuous efforts of the two universities, the institute has become a bridge for Chinese and Moroccan educational and cultural exchanges.

The teaching and office work of the Confucius Institute mostly happens in the School of Arts and the School of Science of the Mohammed V University. In November 2017, the Confucius Institute successfully applied for the “Demonstration Building” construction project, and on June 14, 2022, the inauguration ceremony of the Confucius Institute Demonstration Building was successfully held at the university. With a total floor area of 2,300 square meters and a total investment of $2.2 million, the demonstration building is equipped with modern multimedia classrooms, language labs, cultural experience centers and libraries, greatly improving the hardware facilities of the Confucius Institute and creating a first-class teaching environment.

The Confucius Institute has maintained a good momentum of development. Up to now, it has trained 9,546 students. Now there are 864 students at the institute. There is one Chinese teacher, two local teachers and 12 volunteer teachers. The current six teaching sites are respectively located in the Mohammed V University, Ibn Zohr University, Ibn Tofail University, the ESSEC Business School Rabat Campus, Sidi Mohamed Ben Abdellah University and the Temara Tourism and Hotel Training Center.
