Updated: November 15, 2022

The Institute for Chinese Culture Studies (ICCS) was built on the basis of the School of Chinese Culture and Communication in 2018.

Against the backdrop of the rejuvenation of Chinese culture in the new era, the ICCS stays committed to implementing the national strategy of "Chinese culture going abroad", and supporting Beijing's endeavor to become an international exchange center. Promoting the transformation of mechanisms related to the development of new liberal arts and talent cultivation, and incorporating fine traditional Chinese culture, revolutionary culture and advanced socialist culture into the training of talents in foreign languages in the new era are priorities for the institute. It will continue to enhance students' humanistic and media literacy, and strengthen their capacity building in international exchanges and communication through making full use of the capital city's status as a national cultural center and its profound history.

The ICCS is comprised of five research centers, namely, the Center for Beijing Metropolitan Cultural and Global Communication Studies, the Center for Translation and Hermeneutics of Chinese Classics, the Center for International Chinese Education and Globalization of Chinese Literature, the Center for Digital Humanities and Classical Studies, and the Center for Chinese Studies.

The ICCS is now undertaking two important research programs associated with the National Social Science Fund of China (NSSFC), presiding over six NSSFC research projects, conducting two important research projects in the category of Beijing philosophical and social science disciplines, and doing 16 types of research projects at different levels. Over the past few years, the ICCS has edited, compiled and published two academic collections titled "The Guangming Social Sciences Collection" and "The Cross-Cultural Studies Collection", and taken part in the planning and implementation of two academic symposiums: the Forum for Young Scholars and the Symposium on Global Humanism Studies.

The ICCS has maintained sound cooperative relations with the Center for Chinese studies at Germany's University of Trier, the Department of Oriental Art in Ruskin School of Art of Oxford University, Kyoto University, the Department of Political Science of Washington College, and the Chinese University of Hong Kong. It has also built long-term relations in collaborative studies with the Institute of Philosophy of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), the Center for Comparative Literature and Cultural Studies and the Center for Ancient Chinese Classics and Archives of Peking University, the Center for Classical Civilization of Renmin University of China, the Research Center for Literature and Art of Beijing Normal University, and the Institute for a Community with Shared Future at the Communication University of China.

The ICCS looks forwards to working with global talents to conduct a wide range of academic studies for the cause of mankind.
