Established in 1964, the library is the center of literature and information of Beijing International Studies University. It assists the university in cultivating multilingual, interdisciplinary, internationalized and compound talents, and   provides document resources and services for the teaching and research activities to facilitate the university's effort in building first-class disciplines and majors.

With decades of construction and development, the library has built a system of document and information resources covering literature, management science, economics and philosophy. The system is rich in content, reasonable in structure and clear in hierarchy. There are over 1.2 million books in its collection and 100 digital resources, covering nearly 30 languages.

The library consists of the main library, the foreign language branch and the newspaper information center, with a total of more than 1,000 reading seats. The library opens 98 hours a week and offers 7/24 network service. In addition to regular book and periodical lending services, the library also provides discovery search, intelligent online consultation, information literacy training, discipline-exclusive services and other deep-level services. The library is working to facilitate inter-library exchange and transfer of books and documents and realize common and shared development of information resources through cooperation with the China Academic Library and Information System (CALIS), the China Academic Digital Associative Library (CADAL), China Academic Social Sciences and Humanities Library (CASHL), National Science and Technology Library(NSTL), Beijing Academic Library and Information System (BALIS), China Alliance of Foreign Language Universities, and the Alliance of Portuguese Language Document Resources.
