The BRICS Youth Summit and the Beijing Sister City Youth Organization Youth-Oriented Development City Seminar were held at the Beijing International Studies University (BISU) on Nov 2. Chinese and foreign youth representatives from 51 countries and 29 organizations participated in the events online and on site. 

Liu Kai, deputy secretary-general of the All-China Youth Federation, Wang Yanxia, vice-president of the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (CPAFFC) and Li Jian, deputy secretary of the Beijing Municipal Committee of the Communist Youth League attended the seminar. 

Ji Jinbiao, president of BISU and Wang Xiuyan, deputy secretary of the CPC BISU Committee, met with the representatives. Zhang Yan, vice-president of BISU also attended the seminar. 

The seminar had as its theme "Building a youth-oriented city and promoting the common development of youth and cities". The participants urged Chinese and foreign youth to work together for cooperation, innovation and openness and inclusiveness, as they build the Youth-Oriented Development City into a sustainable future. Sun Weijia, president of BISU Institute for International and Regional Studies, gave a special report summarizing the Chinese government's vision for the global youth development and analyzing China’s foreign policy. He called on young people around the world to enhance cooperation as well as understanding to build a community with a shared future for mankind. 

Participants shared ideas over topics including "Urban Development & Youth Employment and Entrepreneurship", "Urban Planning and Youth Development", and "Urban Public Services and Youth Integration". 

During the discussion on "Urban Development & Youth Employment and Entrepreneurship", participants reached a consensus that youth employment and entrepreneurship are important in accelerating urban development. Yang Shaoqi from the Central University of Finance and Economics and Lana, a Turkmenistan student at the Beijing Institute of Technology, jointly gave a report analyzing how the digital economy is fueling high-quality development in cities. 

During the discussion on "Urban Planning and Youth Development", Liu Jiating from BISU shared the idea that big data can energize the construction of a smart city. Other Chinese and foreign university students also discussed the value of urban planning and development from the perspective of urban intelligent transportation and rural industry revitalization. 

During the discussion on "Urban Public Services and Youth Integration", a representative from the Association for Sri Lanka-China Social and Cultural Co-operation said that only cultural recognition can inspire greater wisdom among young people. Cultural service is an important component of urban public service. Young people should get involved in public service to make more contributions to urban development.
