On March 19, Zhang Yan, vice-president of Beijing International Studies University (BISU), visited BISU volunteers working at the New China International Exhibition Center. The volunteers were tasked with controlling the spread of COVID-19 cases, as the center served as a hub and gateway for inbound travelers. During the visit, Zhang participated in an investigation forum hosted by Li Lei, Deputy Director of Beijing Volunteer Service Guidance Center.

At the forum, Li gave an introduction about the organization of personnel, the establishment of work duties, and the management of routine work. He praised BISU volunteers for their hard work. As the first batch of people working there, BISU volunteers helped with data collection, the distribution of supporting materials, and communication among various departments, in addition to their translation work. BISU volunteers shared their experience, daily work tips, and formulation of regulations, providing valuable work experience.

Hao Qingmei, Liu Ruiji, and Liu Chenyang, leading teachers from BISU, introduced the construction of the voluntary group, the activities of CP and CYL, safety protection, logistic services, and external publicity. Wang Donghao, a volunteer translator, shared his unique story of providing services to the staff of the Norwegian Embassy. He found that the translation volunteers not only needed to provide accurate translations, but also provide a sense of calm for inbound people. Zhang Shuang, another volunteer translator, mentioned her fulfillment when she helped an emotional foreigner successfully solve his problems. Zhang Yifan, a volunteer of material management, expressed her feelings towards the pandemic prevention.

Finally, Zhang expressed the university's concern and admiration for the volunteers. He pointed out that, as the first group of volunteers of the center, the students demonstrated the brilliant voluntary tradition of BISU in the face of unknown challenges. "You are all pioneers in this war, creating lots of useful experience. We must give a thumbs-up to all of you." In the end, he reminded volunteers to do a summary, and inspire more teenagers in the future.

After the seminar, Zhang surveyed the volunteers' lives and experienced voluntary work in terms of COVID-19 at the China New International Exhibition Center. He also met with Jian Li, vice-secretary of the Municipal Youth League Committee, to discuss voluntary service work. Xianbo Meng, vice-minister of the league committee, Ying Liu, head of the Beijing Voluntary Service Instruction Center, and other leaders and counselors from BISU were also involved in the survey.

A total of 33 people from BISU are currently doing voluntary work on COVID-19. Since March 10th, they have helped more than 300 foreigners from 40 countries, contributing over 2,000 hours of voluntary service. Additionally, BISU is preparing for online volunteer work to support people and organizations in combating COVID-19.
