On February 20, the opening ceremony of the Beijing Winter Olympic Games left a profound impression on people with a full sense of "romance, modernity, and technology", which highlighted its unique charm. Led by Beijing International Studies University, 10 units, including Tsinghua University, Communication University of China, Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications, China International Communications Group, Beijing Wenge Technology Co.,Ltd) cooperated in the research and development of " Multilingual Global Communication Service Platform of Winter Olympics and Chinese culture based on 5G technology". (hereinafter referred to as "Multilingual Global Communication Service Platform") The Multilingual Global Communication Service Platform provided a platform for audiences and media from all around the world to understand the Winter Olympic events and Chinese culture comprehensively while adding highlights to the services with science and technology. The "Multilingual Global Communication Service Platform" introduced the Beijing Winter Olympics to the world in 29 languages, covered more than 140 countries and regions around the world, and posted more than 10 million pieces of winter Olympics information. It also helped the accurate communication of the Winter Olympics, and made contributions to present compelling stories of the Beijing Winter Olympics and spreading the Olympic spirit. The high-tech programs are the most striking colors of the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic Games. Since the project “Multilingual Global Communication Service Platform” was launched, BISU’s Party Committee have been highly concerned. With Ji Jinbiao, Vice Secretary of the Party Committee and president, assumed the role as the project leader, and the university’s China Academy of "One Belt and One Road" Strategy undertook most of the work of research and development for the project, supported by professors of 27 languages of 7 colleges in BISU. The platform was completed on January 14, 2022. On January 23, the platform was officially installed in the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Winter Olympics (BOCOG) Main Media Center (MMC), starting the demonstration of application during the Olympic Games. According to Professor Liang Haoguang, the project advisor and dean of the China Academy of "One Belt One Road" Strategy of Beijing International Studies University: “The Winter Olympics Multilingual Communication Information Platform (https://bj-2022.com) integrates multi-modal data related to the global Winter Olympics, applies technologies such as cross-modal content retrieval, accurate recommendation, and rapid topic generation, to tell stories about the Winter Olympics in 29 languages and carry forward Chinese culture. As an academic and non-governmental supplement to the official publicity matrix of the Beijing Winter Olympics Organizing Committee, the platform is used to disseminate Winter Olympics information and present compelling China stories.” During the Winter Olympics, the Winter Olympics Global Communication Service Platform was highly praised by professionals from home and abroad, including Anthony Edgar, former director of media operation of the International Olympic Committee and senior expert of the media operation department of the Beijing Winter Olympics, and Fan Weicheng, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and dean of the Institute of Public Security of Tsinghua University. They believe that "the Global Communication Platform of the 2022 Winter Olympics has world-class technology content and they look forward to its continuing improvement and application at the Paris Olympic Games.” |
