Updated: November 11, 2022

Established in December 2015, the School of International Relations of Beijing International Studies University (BISU) aims to promote diplomacy with Chinese characteristics and build Beijing as an international exchange center. The school offers three majors including international politics, international affairs and international relations, and diplomacy. Based on its multi-language education, the school aims to build itself as a training base for future diplomats and foreign affairs professionals, an academic high-level platform for international issues, and a foreign policy think tank.

Characteristics of education

The school focuses on the characteristic training of “major + language”, “major + regions and countries” and “major + cross-cultural communication” for the education of diplomatic and foreign affairs professionals. International politics is the pilot major of Beijing’s “dual-training program” and was selected in the first-class undergraduate major in 2020. The school actively promotes innovative teaching methods and expands international education cooperation. It has cooperated with many overseas universities to provide exchange programs for students.

Introduction of majors

They not only receive good training in listening, speaking, reading, writing and translating of foreign languages but also acquire an understanding of international politics and China’s foreign policy and master the basic knowledge of international law and basic skills for international communication.

The major of international affairs and international relations serves the strategic goal of talent training for international organizations. It trains international talents to have a global vision and feelings for a community with a shared future for mankind. It contributes to China’s plan for global governance. The students of this major should have a good command of English.

The major of the diplomacy (Party diplomacy) aims to carry forward the major country diplomacy with Chinese characteristics, improve the national image and upgrade China's soft power, as the capital becomes an international exchange center. It focuses on studying strategies, policies and laws of behaviors in foreign affairs. The students of this major should have good foreign language and cross-cultural communication abilities and master diplomatic skills, etiquette and norms.
